Welcome to the second tutorial scenario for the Fantasy Battle Simulator.

The goal of this scenario is to use your red warriors to destroy three blue portals. Along the way, youll learn how to give movement orders to your warriors.

Theres a scoreboard near the top of the viewport which tracks your progress. Each portal and warrior still standing counts as one point, so the score is initially 2-3: two red warriors to three blue portals.

The commander controls lie in a row, just below the viewport and just above the simulator controls. The background color of the row indicates which team youre commanding in this case, red.

A warriors movement is controlled his orders, which are part of the description you see when you click describe on him. His orders are arranged in a list. The first order in the list is his top priority. If it doesnt apply, he looks to the next order, and so on. New orders are added to the top of the list, so that new orders tend to override older ones.

In this scenario, both your warriors have been ordered to stay inside the ring of pillars. However, the enemy portals lie outside this ring. In order to destroy them, youll have to give your warriors new orders.

1. Giving direct orders

Clicking direct on a warrior overrides his old orders with a new one that makes him move according to the arrow keys. By pressing two arrow keys at once, you can make him move diagonally. When you release the arrow keys, hell temporarily go back to his previous orders - useful when you need him to fight.

For practice, go into the simulator and click center and direct on one of the warriors, then use the arrow keys to steer him to a blue portal. (If you dont see any portals, move him downscreen till you do.) When the portal is in his target zone, release the arrow keys; he should then attack and destroy the portal.

Direct can be used to direct several warriors at once, but its not very effective. Pressing the Ctrl key instantly cancels all direct orders youve given.

2. Planting banners

Banners are a more convenient way to direct your warriors: first you select some warriors, then you plant a banner on the spot where you want them to go. They then move toward the banner until one of them reaches it.

There are a couple different ways to select warriors. You can select all your warriors at once by clicking the select-all icon, or you can select a clump of them by clicking select-area and dragging the black outline around them. When theyre selected, clicking goto-g on the battlefield plants their banner.

Theres also a shortcut, if you want a plant banner for a single warrior: click goto-g on the warrior, then drag his green arrow to the spot where you want to plant his banner.

Go back to the simulation now and practice selecting warriors. When youve got one selected, center your way around the battlefield till you find a blue portal, then plant a banner on it. When your warrior reaches the banner, he should engage the portal and destroy it.

If you create a banner and then change your mind, you can remove the banner by clicking remove-g on it.

3. Giving seek-portal orders

To destroy the last portal, click seek-portal on one of your warriors. This gives him a new order: to get within striking distance of the nearest portal. (Verify his orders by clicking describe on him.)

When the last portal is destroyed, blues score will drop to zero, the simulator will pause, and You won the battle will appear on the screen. Good job!
